moving on, letting go

There are going to be people in our lives that just... don't belong. There are people that you need to let go of. It sucks. That's the way of life. Nothing we can really do about that. It just means that there ARE people that most certainly belong. But you won't be able to fit them in your life if that space is being taken up by people that don't.

I've let go of pretty much everybody I once called a friend. Each time, it hurt, but it started hurting less. Especially when I realized the negative effect some of them were having on me. I would completely lose sight of who I was. I would sacrifice the things I cared most about to make them happy. That ain't right. That isn't sustainable. That is how you end up as an empty vessel begging for people to give you purpose. Not me. I've lived for other people's goals for too long. But I had to. I had to learn that if you don't give yourself purpose, someone or something else will. Nature abhors a vacuum. If you aren't doing the work that aligns with your soul, then you'll be doing the work that aligns with someone else's.

What if I told you (and in part told myself by writing this for the first time while reading it at the same time, creating some feedback loop of certainty) that it really is as simple as doing the work that you want to do. What if right? What if you could just write your blog posts all day? What if you did just focus on that side project you've been putting off "because it doesn't make any money"? What if money is just a reflection of your commitment to a cause? I mean think about it... A job right... Show up at a certain time, do a certain thing, get money. Doesn't that sound like commitment? They tell you when to be there, so you're there at that time. They tell you what to do, so you do it. Now what if you started doing this to yourself? Started giving yourself a schedule. Started breaking your goals down into individual tasks and blocking time to accomplish them. What are the odds the universe will treat that effort similarly?

Could be wishful thinking. It's also kinda wishful thinking that showing up to a job is actually going to guarantee you money too. I mean like, we do sort of blindly trust this big invisible entity (the company) to just give us money. Almost like trusting the universe (a big visible and invisible entity) to do the same... Quite odd when I put it like that to be honest.

Got a little sidetracked there. What was I talking about? Oh yeah, people that suck. Get rid of them. Find the people that actually show up. Find the people that are doing their own thing in a similar direction as you. Not the people trying to get you to move in their direction.

Get over the temporary pain of letting someone go. The long-term pain of keeping them around will be far greater.
