Get ahead! There is literally nothing stopping you except your own inhibitions. Get ahead. Do the things you know you should do. The obstacle is the way. Look, I've planned at least 63 blog posts from now until next year. My count could be off. That's a lot of writing. That's a long time to spend sitting in front of my laptop typing away. All for what? Well... to say that I did it. I don't get paid to write yet. Key word, yet. One day I pray that changes. Maybe somebody reading this will send a $5 donation my way just to tell me they read it. Subliminal messaging? Let me be more blunt, give me money.
jk. You don't have to. Unless... No really, don't. Or...
Okay look, I believe that it is possible for things like this to attract an audience that are genuinely willing to pay money for words. Would I? Highly unlikely. At least not a blog. A book, sure. But a blog? Why would I pay for something I can make myself? That's my mindset for a lot of art. Now, I fully understand the irony of asking for money for my art but not wanting to spend money on art. But like, if you had a potato farm, would you go out and buy potatoes? No, you'd sell the thousands of extras that you have. Every now and then you might buy a sweet potato or get some little goldens because you only grow russets. That is to say, if I found an artist that really resonated with me, I'd gladly send a few buckaroos their way.
One thing I will say, I would stray away from buying digital art. It's so, circumstantial. But a vinyl? That's REAL. That is sound embedded into a physical medium. That's sick. But an mp3? Don't play with any neodymium magnets... Gone. Poof. Just like that. No thanks.
Having said that, I’m definitely starting to rethink my own marketing strategy when it comes to music. I want to make things physical. There's something so much more special about it. Streaming will always be cool. All my music anywhere you have your phone and internet? Sick. But having a circle with sound PHYSICALLY EMBEDDED in it????? WICKED. Like what? Come on man, that's got to be the coolest thing ever. Besides like planes and supernovas. Certainly up there though.
Anyways... What are you waiting for? Go do those things that you know you want to do and feel would be steps taken towards achieving that thing that pesters your heart because you're not moving in that direction. That makes sense? Maybe? Just do it. Go. I've got 62 more blog posts to write. Am I going to do them all today? Probably not. That would be crazy. But.... what if I did? Well, then I would feel pretty accomplished. That would be one hell of an undertaking. Rome wasn't built in a day. I aim to get through at least a couple of months’ worth. Time will tell.
