find the positives
One of the most difficult battles we will face in life is remaining true to ourselves. There will be countless distractions that all yearn for our attention. Thing is, we can only ever pay attention to one thing at a time. I only say this because there is something weighing on my mind at the moment. Something I'm learning to do is find a positive in every situation.
It sure as heck ain't easy. But there is a lesson in every situation. Negative feelings reveal something about ourselves that we may not see otherwise. That is the only way to truly come to terms with who you actually are. Why you are the way you are. And let me tell you, it's uncomfortable. I am VERY good at seeing my flaws. I am very good at getting swept away by negative emotions. Finding a way to see the worst case scenario. It's toxic. Poison.
What about the positives? Where are they? Someone from the outside looking in seems to be able to see all the great things I have going for me. But me? Nearly blind to them. I say nearly because I'm learning that they are in fact there. If I take the time to actually look for them, I do find them. The annoying part is that they don't jump into my awareness the same as the negatives. I have to make an effort to find the good. But the bad comes naturally.
Probably for good reason though. Evolution necessitates adaptation. If something doesn't feel good, it SHOULD be at the front of our attention so we can make a necessary change. The bad feelings indicate areas we aren't secure. They're a guide. Leading us along a path to unification with ourselves. Acceptance at the highest level. Things are going to unfold the way they do. All we can do is bob and weave. Even that may be out of our control. Who knows really.
Time will tell.
